LaBelle

Left Sanibel Island Feb 2nd and passed under the Sanibel Causeway on our journey towards Fort Meyers and on to the Caloosahatchee River. We will be traveling 149 miles from Fort Meyers to Stuart. We will be going through 5 locks on the river. There are drawbridges swing bridges, bascule lift bridges and stationary bridges. The Frankin Lock raised us only 2 feet. Then we passed under Alva Drawbridge. A very nice gentleman had to walk out halfway on the swing bridge at Ft Denaud to open it then walk back. He posed for a picture. Slow traveling, slow idle speed , no wake, lots of rules of the river. Saw a few small fast boats but they can’t go far because of those rules. We met a guy at LaBelle free city dock who had his sailboat made into a pirate ship. We met a family from Holland who were parked next to us in their sailboat. I walked around to see what was in our area and almost got drenched. I managed to duck under a shelter where I met a gal from Michigan who now lives in Florida. It is so interesting to meet people from almost anywhere.
